Dr Maggie Allison Psychological Therapies

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Often referred to as 'the talking cure'. Psychological therapy will help you to explore the ways in which the past, your current situation and your concerns about the future might be affecting you. A skilled Chartered Counselling Psychologist will not tell you what to do or give you advice, however they will be able to help you to feel more in control of your situation, manage stress, and support you in the decisions you make about positive change

There are a number of types of psychological therapy, and each one has a different approach to resolving difficulties. I am trained in all key approaches and will help you to decide which way of working would be most helpful for you

    What Benefits can be Expected?

The main factor that usually determines how successful the therapy is often does not lie with the technique used, but rather with the relationship between the counsellor or psychotherapist and the client. How you connect with your therapist is likely to determine how successful your treatment is

    How can Psychological Therapy help?

Every person’s treatment plan is different and is based on your own individual needs. Treatment can help you to tackle symptoms, manage difficult life events, reduce psychological distress and to enhance and promote psychological well-being. You will be able to discuss with your psychologist the changes that you would like to make in your life

How many sessions will I need?

This depends entirely on your situation, the difficulties you are experiencing, and your personal preferences. Typically, most people attend for six to twelve sessions
